River Dancing

by Kevin Heaton

Army green, bug-eyed cicadae,
(furloughed from earthen

dungeons and brown chainmail
jackets) serenade in unison from

cottonwood trees sprinkling
summer snow onto river eddies

dancing pirouettes to gulf stream
waters, as I tightline fish for

channel cat along rocky, riprap
banks of the Arkansas.

Kevin Heaton lives in South Carolina and is from Oklahoma, where he published Country Music. He has recently completed his first full volume of poetry, entitled Harahey, and his work has been published in Foliate Oak, Counterexample Poetics, Right Hand Pointing, Grey Sparrow Journal, Sacred Journey, Elimae, Calliope Nerve, Nerve Cowboy, Heavy Hands Ink, and others.
